Char Dham Yatra is one of the most famous tours of India. There are many people from India and around the world visit this pilgrimage sites. Char Dham is formed in association with the names of four shrines of India, which are widely respected by the Hindus. The four Dhams include Badrinath, Dwarka, Puri, and Rameshwaram. Once in the lifetime, traveling to four Dhams is considered highly sacred in Hindu religion. Char Dham is mentioned by Adi Shankaracharya, of which there are three Vaishnavas and one Shiva’s holy place.
Other religious sites in Uttarakhand State namely, Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath are known as small four dhams, due to which the difference between the four dhams and the small four dhams can be known. But by the middle of the 20th century, they were also known as Char Dhams.
Four places of Char Dham:
According to the geographical view, the four dhams constitute a perfect class, in which Badrinath and Rameswaram fall on a longitude, and Dwarka and Puri fall on a latitude, which is located at the far North, South, East, and West of India.

1. Puri:

Puri is located in the East, Odisha state of India. Puri is one of the oldest cities in the eastern part of the country. It is situated on the banks of the Bay of Bengal. The main statue located in the temple is of Shri Krishna, which is worshiped as Lord Jagannath. This is the only temple in entire India, where Lord Krishna’s sister Devi Subhadra is worshiped with her brothers Lord Jagannath and Lord Balabhadra. The main temple is about 1000 years old, which was built by King Ganga Deva and King III Anang Bhima Dev. Puri is the site of the Govardhan Math, which is one of the four major maths established by Adi Shankaracharya.

2. Rameswaram:

Rameswaram is situated in the southern direction, in the Tamil Nadu state of India. It is located very close to the Gulf of Mannar of the Indian Peninsula. According to the history of India, this is the place where Lord Rama built a bridge “Ram Setu” to reach Lanka. Ramnath Swamy Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva which is situated in a major area of Rameswaram. It is said that this temple was built by Shri Ram Chandra Ji. Rameswaram is an important place for Hindus, as the journey to Benaras is considered imperfect without Rameswaram.

3. Dwarka:

Dwarka is situated in the west, India’s state of Gujarat. The name of this city is derived from the Sanskrit word “Door”, which means gate. It is located very close to Gomti River which merges in the Gulf of Kutch. The famous town of Dwarka was the residence of Lord Krishna. It is believed that Dwarka has sunk six times due to the damage caused by the sea and destruction caused by the sea and at present Dwarka is the 7th town to be built in this area.

4. Badrinath:

Badrinath is located in the Uttarakhand state of India. It is located on the banks of Garhwal hills and, on the banks of the Alaknanda River.
